Description
English: Man gathering good coal from the slag heaps at Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania. In the Great Depression coal pickers like this one working on a rock dump in Nanty Glo could earn as much as a dollar a day for the usable coal they could salvage from the mountain of second-rate rejected 'rock.' The 1937 photo is from the Library of Congress collection.
