Description |
English: Sphinx by Moonlight Wyllie visited Egypt in 1883 to make studies for paintings of the recent Bombardment of Alexandria commissioned by the Fine Art Society, London, one of which (BHC0643) is in the museum's collection. However, it seems likely that this watercolour of the Sphinx dates from a later visit, perhaps during a cruise in the late 1920s when Wyllie produced a set of drypoints of Mediterranean subjects. |
