Description
English: Michel Ehrhardt (traceable in Ulm 1469-1522). Maria with the protective cloak, around 1480. Limewood with a new setting. The mighty vertical folds of the robe give the figure of Mary a statuary quality, while her left leg and the turning of her head suggest movement. Looking into the distance, her cloak spreads protectively over a group of ten praying figures stacked on top of each other. Similarly, the believers knelt in front of the sculpture and asked for the protection of the Queen of Heaven.
Deutsch: Michel Ehrhardt (nachweisbar in Ulm 1469-1522). Maria mit dem Schutzmantel, um 1480. Lindenholz mit neuer Fassung. Die mächtigen senkrechten Falten des Gewands verleihen der Marienfigur eine statuarische Qualität, während ihr nach vorne gesetztes linkes Bein und die Drehung des Kopfes Bewegung suggerieren. Den Blick in die Ferne gerichtet breitet sich ihren Mantel schützend über eine Gruppe von zehn betenden, über einander gestaffelten Figuren aus. Ähnlich knieten die Gläubigen vor der Skulptur nieder und baten um den Schutz des Himmelskönigin.
