Summary

[edit]
Description

Cologne master, around 1410-1420. Standing Mary with child. Walnut. Painted winged altars were extremely popular in Cologne. The one from Saint Gereon is the only surviving example of a sculpture. Originally there should have been more, as the figure displayed there today suggests. She, too, was once at the center of an age. This is indicated by old traces of attachment on the back. The figure was made in Cologne, in a style of elegantly curved folds typical of the time it was made, as was used everywhere at the time.

Deutsch: Kölner Meister, um 1410-1420. Stehende Maria mit Kind. Nussbaum. Gemalte Flügelaltäre waren in Köln äußerst beliebt.
