Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Tilman Riemenschneider (around 1460 Heiligenstadt - 1531 Würzburg). The Annunciation, around 1485 Alabaster with gilding and colored painting. Maria is kneeling at the prayer desk with a book that she has just closed and is covering with her cloak. It seems as if she wants to protect the scriptures from the vortex of the incoming heavenly messenger. With a serious expression Gabriel informs the thoughtful virgin that she is pregnant with the Son of God. The Annunciation is one of Riemenschneider's earliest works. The conception is extremely virtuoso in execution. The moving draperies keep the anatomy of the body recognizable. Amsterdam Rijksmuseum.
Amsterdam Rijksmuseum.
