| Description |
Master of the house book (active on the Middle Rhine in the last third of the 15th century). The washing of the feet of the apostles / the last supper, around 1485-1490. Coniferous wood. The panels belong to the outer sides of a passion altar that was originally intended for the cathedral in Speyer. As part of the church furnishings, they are much more tied to tradition than the graphic work of the caretaker, which was aimed at private buyers. Details such as the evening sky or the fly on the basket in the washing of feet show an interest in the unusually naturalistic representation with which the artist's workshop has become famous. Die Tafeln gehören zu den Außenseiten eines ursprünglich wohl für den Dom in Speyer bestimmten Passionsaltar. Als Teil der Kirchenausstattung sind sie viel stärker traditionsgebunden als das grafische Werk des Hausbuchmeisters, das sich an eine private Käuferschaft richtete. Details wie der Abendhimmel oder die Fliege auf dem Korb in der Fußwaschung zeigen von einem Interesse an einer ungewöhnlich naturalistischen Darstellungsweise, mit der die Werkstatt des Künstlers berühmt geworden ist. |
