Summary

Description

Cologne workshop. Crucifixion of Christ with Mary and John, around 1425-1530. Stained glass in grisaille technique with black solder and silver yellow. The stained glass, probably from a cycle of scenes from the Passion of Christ, which was created in Cologne, shows the crucifixion predominantly in shades of gray. The mourning figures of Maria and Johannes are characterized by an impressively captured emotion. There is an atmosphere of deep sorrow and devout silence. The realistic visual design of human emotionality is one of the striking new achievements of art in the second quarter of the 15th century.

Jahrhunderts.
