Description
Martin Schongauer (around 1440/1445 Colmar to 1491 Breisach or Colmar). The Great Carrying of the Cross, around 1475. Copper engraving. The unusually large copper engraving has the format and requirements of a panel painting. Different sanctities create the impression of lighting and color. On the right, Jerusalem lies in the sunlight, which dissolves the building and landscape into thin silhouettes. On the left over Golgotha the sky is thundering and dark. Schongauer's place wants to be studied intensively and closely in its details - as a medium of pious meditation as well as a work of art.
Deutsch: Martin Schongauer (um 1440/1445 Colmar bis 1491 Breisach oder Colmar). Die große Kreuztragung, um 1475. Kupferstich.
