Summary
[edit]DescriptionSpätgotik exhibition Block Book with Apocalypse 9791.jpg |
English: Germany, 1468/69
Apocalypse, block book. Wooden panel prints on paper, colored. Block books are richly illustrated alternatives to early printing with movable type. Despite their seemingly ancient appearance, most of these plate prints were created around the same time or even later than the first incunabula, such as the Gutenberg Bible. The books were produced like woodcut single-sheet prints, only in continuous narrative sequences as a picture-text series. This resulted in text-image compositions like in today's drawing or comic books.

Apokalypse, Blockbuch. |
