Summary

[edit]
Description

Collection: Willard Dickerman Straight and Early U.S.-Korea Diplomatic Relations, Cornell University Library

Title: Souvenir of the Corean Emperor's visit throughout his empire

Date: after 1907

Place: Asia: South Korea; Seoul

Type: Postcards/Ephemera

Description: The place where this picture was taken is unknown. It shows the Korean emperor (King 'Sunjong', ruled 1907-1910), standing behind the table in full regalia on the upper floor, flanked and accompanied by Korean and Japanese dignitaries. The group is - according to the official image caption - obviously on a tour throughout Korea. The composition of this image is carefully crafted. To the right. Behind the plain brick gate, the Japanese and Korean flags can be seen. It appears as if western officials (Russian dignitaries?) can be seen in this image, too (the two gentlemen to the far left, and the second person from the right).

Inscription/Marks: Image imprinted with legend: 'Souvenir of the Corean Emperor's visit throughout his empire.'

Identifier: 1260.74.11.08

Persistent URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1813.001/5xrz
