Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Southport Station Although Chapel Street was always Southport's principal station, until 1952 there was another terminus, Lord Street, with trains to Liverpool Central. The Chapel Street name, however, was officially retained until 1968 to distinguish it from the suburban St Lukes which closed in that year. With its substantial overall roof, there is still an echo of the days when excursion and holiday trains were handled here, and it is still a busy station. Operationally, the station is divided into two halves; platforms 1-4 are used by Merseyrail electric trains to Liverpool, 5-7 by Northern Rail services to Wigan and Manchester.
