Summary
[edit]DescriptionSouthern Pacific GS-3 locomotives.JPG | Postcard photo of 4 new GS-3 locomotives for Southern Pacific's "Coast Daylight" train. The train made its debut in 1937 with GS-2 locomotives which were replaced in late 1937 or early 1938 with the newer GS-3s. |
Date | Late 1937 to early 1938. The train had GS-2 locomotives when it began its route in 1937. In late 1937, the GS-3 locomotives were built for use with this line. The next "step" for steam power would be the GS-4, but they didn't begin building them until 1941. DOPS cards (letters in stamp box) were produced from 1925 to 1942. |
