Summary
[edit]DescriptionSouth Devon Railway Sea Wall - geograph.org.uk - 578783.jpg |
English: South Devon Railway Sea Wall. The South Devon Railway was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and combines the railway with a sea wall.
It takes a route from Exeter which follows the River Exe to Dawlish Warren. At this location, shown in the picture, it runs beneath the sea cliffs at Teignmouth and then follows the River Teign and on to Newton Abbot. The railway line follows tidal waters for about 13 miles, 4 of which are open sea. The porthole of Parsons Tunnel beneath Hole Head can be seen in the distance. 1062614 |
