Summary
[edit]DescriptionSolidus Heraclonas (obverse) (cropped).jpg |
English: Heraclonas. 641 AD. AV Solidus (4.47 gm). Constantinople mint. dN CONSTAN TINUS PP AVG, small crowned facing bust, holding globus cruciger. Philip Grierson in the Dumbarton Oaks catalogue attributes the small narrow bust solidi to Heraclonas, who reigned for six months in 641. Although not generally accepted, this attribution is plausible, and the scarcity of the types suggest it was a very brief issue. These solidi have also been dated to the early reign of Constans II, ca. 642-645. |
