[edit]DescriptionSolar eclipse, more than 1 pinhole! (7256181276).jpg |
Here's one of the two banker's box pinhole solar eclipse viewers I made for the big day last Sunday. I arranged a small opening by cutting away a part of the handle-flap, then taped aluminum foil (recycled of course) over that. A gentle push with a sewing needle provided the hole. A sheet of copier paper on the inside at the other end was the projection surface. Here it is in action. I was holding the box with one hand to line it up with the sun, holding the camera with the other hand, looking through the SLR viewfinder to get the focusing mark on the crescent and shooting 1 handed... thank goodness for autofocus and shutter priority... The beautiful bluish purple is "sky light" from the clear blue sky reflected off the white paper. What a beautiful color! You can see the completely unexceptional cardboard box edge beyond the paper, and our neighbor's lawn in the background. DSC_a0365 |
