Soil Health Clinic Thursday, February 14, 2013 10:00 am -12:00 pm North Central Agricultural Research Laboratory 2923 Medary Ave, Brookings, SD 57006 How do you get your soils to work for you? We will be discussing select aspects of soil health that can improve cycling of essential crop nutrients and storage of soil moisture. FREE SOIL TESTING! How many Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi are in your soil? For each field: Clear away residues if possible; collect soil from 0-6” depth (depth is IMPORTANT) from 4 to 8 areas in the field. Combine in 5 gallon bucket and keep cold. Soil Aggregates and Salinity Issues Soil aggregates are essential for capturing and storing soil moisture. We will be looking at how they are formed and why they are important. Soil Salinity is an increasing problem in some soils during recent wet years. Causes of soil salinity will be discussed. Are you concerned about salinity levels on your farm? We will be happy to test your soil samples for salinity content.
