Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sittingbourne paper mill Paper making in Sittingbourne dates back to 1708. The mill seen here is often locally referred to as Lloyds mill, after Edward Lloyd who bought the site in 1863 and operated the mill until taken over by Bowaters in 1936.

In 1912, with a workforce of 1,200 and output of 2,000 tonnes per week, the mill was the biggest in the world. The mill closed on 31st January 2007, and is currently being stripped of its machinery.
