On July 28, 2010, a 3rd Wing C-17 Globemaster III, a cargo aircraft, crashed shortly after take-off at about 6:14 p.m. (Alaska time) during a local training mission. The four crew members on board were killed in the crash; Majors Michael Freyholtz and Aaron Malone, pilots assigned to the Alaska Air National Guard’s 249th Airlift Squadron, Capt.
