Summary
[edit]DescriptionSisyrinchium spA flower5 (16189794985).jpg |
Introduced, warm-season, annual, tufted herb, 5-20 cm tall. Leaves are linear and 2-7 cm long. Flowerheads are 2-6 flowered. Flowers (5-7 mm wide) have 6 tepals and 2 colour forms, either pale yellow with a purple band at the top of the throat or blue to mauve with a yellowish throat. Fruit are green to reddish-brown, round and 2-4 mm wide. Flowering is from spring to early autumn. A native of South America, it is a weed of pastures, lawns and disturbed areas. A minor weed of pastures, it usually occurs at low density in disturbed areas. Although it may cause scouring of livestock as has been reported for other Sisyrinchium species, it hardly ever occurs at high enough densities to be a problem. |
