English: Sir John Scott (or Scot) (c. 1423 – 17 October 1485) of Scot's Hall in the parish of Smeeth, Kent, a committed supporter of the House of York. Among other offices, he served as Comptroller of the Household to Edward IV, and lieutenant to the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. Detail from from a family pedigree illuminated on vellum, commissioned by his descendant Sir John Scott (1570-1616) of Nettlestead Place, MP. Sold at Bonhams Auctioneers, London, 26 Jun 2007, Lot 46 "HERALDRY - SCOTT FAMILY OF KENT", for £3,840.
He married Agnes Beaufitz (d.1486/7), daughter and co-heiress of William Beaufitz of The Grange, Gillingham, Kent. He displays on his shield the arms of Scott (Argent, three Catherine Wheels sable a bordure gules). The shield at left displays Scott impaling Beaufitz. By his wife he had a son: Sir William Scott (d. 24 August 1524), who married Sibyl Lewknor. The shield below shows Scott impaling Lewknor. |
