Description

The church dedicated to saint nicolas was burnt to the ground in 1573 and rebuilt in 1628. Refurbished in 1989. Broek en Waterland is a small city just north of Amsterdam in North Holland.

From the brochure available at the Church: "The only remaining stained glass window from 1640 shows the history of the church in 5 parts." The bottom row shows the fire burning the original building by Spanish soldiers. Above that is the destroyed church with a thatched roof and a temporary church on the left. The middle frame has the rebuilt church and the temporary building fades, and above that is the sun above the new church with the villagers gathering to attend. Finally, the top row shows the interior of the church during its first service.
