English: Sindur is very important in the Hindu culture of Nepal. It is also a sign of identity. When a girl is young, she only rubs her forehead. Which she marries. According to the Hindu religious tradition in the wedding mandapa, the girl is identified by the same Sindur after the boy puts the Sindur on her forehead by chanting the mantra of the Pandit. There is a belief that no one on the girl's side should look at the girl when the boy wears red. It is a special kind of powder which is red and yellow in color. Although this tradition has disappeared in urban areas, it is still alive in rural areas. Also, Sindur is the beauty of women. When the husband of a married woman dies, he does not wear scarlet. They don't wear red tika, red clothes, red chura etc. The Hindus call her a widow. The woman is dressed in white. They don't wear anything red. It is still very important in rural areas. |
