Description Als Säulenheiliger oder Stylit (von griech. stylos = Säule) wurde zunächst in der Ostkirche ab dem 4./5. Jahrhundert ein Mönch bezeichnet, der zum Zeichen besonderer Askese sein Leben auf dem Kapitell einer Säule zubrachte. Die Säulenheiligen folgten drei asketischen Prinzipien: dem Verweilen an einem Ort (stabilitas loci), dem Unbehaustsein und dem Stehen.
