Ball-and-stick model of part of the crystal structure of silver cyanide, AgCN. This image shows 1×1×3 unit cells. The structure extends for 3 unit cells in the c direction to highlight the linear chains of alternating Ag+ and CN− ions. The structure was reported in Inorg. Chem. (2002) 41, 1042-1044 and is available as ICSD entry 54194 and CSD entry 1618782. Note that the cyanide ions exhibit head-to-tail disorder which makes the carbon and nitrogen atoms indistinguishable in this image. Atoms of these two elements are therefore given the same colour coding. Colour code:
