English: On September 27, 2006 a CH-53E of Heavy Marine Helicopter Squadron 361 lands to conserve fuel after its first initial attempt to externally lift a UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter of 82nd Medical Battalion after it hit a land mine on September 25, 2006 near Al Asad, Iraq. 3D MAW is currently deployed with First Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq (Multi National Forces- West) to develop the Iraqi Security Forces, facilitate the development of official rule of law through democratic government reforms, and continue the development of a market based economy centered on Iraqi reconstruction. 060927-M-3988H-027 (U.S Marine Corps photo by Corporal Richard A Hilario) |
