Summary
[edit]DescriptionSignpost 02 Llanberis Gold.jpg |
English: Llanberis, north Wales. Olwen (left) and Eirlys sit outside the now derelict home called 'Brithdir' that they would go to together, to visit their aunt and uncle and grandfather in the late 1930's. This is in a now-forgotten valley called Cwm Brwynog which mean 'Valley of the Hill of Rushes' in English. Eirlys: “It’s a paradise of a place - so quiet”. Olwen: “Happy memories but it’s so sad to see it gone to rack and ruin”. Eirlys and Olwen’s Dad, Harry, worked at the quarry in Llanberis and died in 1968 aged 64 - he lived at Brithdir until he got married in 1931. Harry met his wife, Katey Owen, as she walked past Brithdir on her way with friends to an annual fair in Nant Peris every 18th September. She would walk from Waunfawr over Bwlch Masalgwyn and after the fair they all walked back the 6 miles together. Intended for Ed Gold's article in Signpost |
