English: Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone of Private 22120, Sidney Lewis, 8th Border Regiment, who died 9 June 1918 aged 21. He was the son of William and Mary of 9 Alexandra Road, Windermere, Cumbria. His body is buried in in Bowness Cemetery, Bowness on Windermere, Cumbria. Some notes that remains of his Army record. He joined up at Carlisle on 2 July 1915 aged 19 years occupation gardener. He fought in France from 29 September 1915 to 1 November 1916. On 29 October 1915 he was admitted to 76th Field Ambulance in the Field with tubercular lung and on 2 November 1915 he was transferred to England from No 1 General Hospital, Etaples, France. |
