Summary
[edit]DescriptionShrub Hill works buildings - 1 - geograph.org.uk - 1358553.jpg |
English: Shrub Hill works buildings - 1 View south down the Worcester & Birmingham canal. They look rather shabby from the outside, but the noises from inside and the parked cars nearby indicate that industrial activity was taking place.
In the second half of the 19th century this was the Vulcan Iron Works, home of McKenzie & Holland Ltd, the foremost manufacturers of railway signalling equipment in the country. The factory was taken over in 1903 by Heenan & Froude (famous for building the Blackpool Tower). http://www.miac.org.uk/mckenzie.htm |
