Summary
[edit]DescriptionShops inside the Old fort.jpg |
English: The fort was later used for a range of purposes; as prisons, barracks, and even as a depot for the construction of Zanzibar's railway, which connected Stone Town to the northern village of Bububu in the early 20th century.
Nowadays it has been converted into a cultural centre, and a key tourist attraction. Therefore, the Old Fort has historic heritage value and cultural value today. The amphitheatre is also now used to host concert and events, such as Zanzibar Film Festival and Sauti za Busara (Sounds of Wisdom music festival), giving it recreational and social value as well. |
