Description
English: Shobha Sen is renowned stage and film actress, she graduated from Bethune College in 1943. In 1944, she joined Gananatya Sangstha and acted in the lead female role of ‘Nabanna’. In 1953 -54 she joined the Little Theatre Group which later became Peoples’ theatre Group. Since then she has acted in many productions of the group, chief among them are: ‘Barricade’, ‘Tiner Taloyar’, ‘Titumir’. She has also acted in films. Very recently she produced ‘Nati’ which depicts the history of the participation of female actresses in Bengali theatre. In the field of stage acting in India, She was wife of Utpal Dutt and the couple had one daughter.

Professor Pabitra Sarkar was a student of the University of Calcutta where he obtained top positions both in his B.A. and M.A. examinations. He taught at Jadavpur University from 1963 to 1998. From 1969 - 1975, he was in the United States to do higher reasearch in Linguistics at the University of Chicago, where he did M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics. He taught at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis from 1973 to 1975. Prof. Sarkar was appointed Vice Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata where he served for seven years from 1990 to 1997. On leaving the University, he served as the Vice-Chairman, West Bengal State Council of Higher Education.

Prof. Sarkar has written and edited more than a hundred books both in English and Bengali and is associated with various literary and cultural organizations of India.
