The Sheraton Hotel was constructed between 1968 and 1975 at the location of the architect Rüknettin Güney's Taksim Belediye Gazinosu (1940-1965). Taksim Square 1970s SALT Research, Söylemezoğlu Archive

Parkın eşiğinde bir otel belirdi Taksim Vakıflar Oteli, İnönü Gezisi'nde (Taksim Parkı), mimar Rüknettin Güney'in Taksim Belediye Gazinosu'nun bulunduğu yere yapıldı. Otelin yapılabilmesi için belediyenin mülkiyetinde olan arsa Vakıflar Bankası'na satıldı. Otel için açılan sınırlı mimarlık yarışmasını 1959 başında Türkiye'den AHE Grubu kazandı. 27 Mayıs’ın ardından yatırım durduruldu. Daha sonra kurulan Taksim Otelcilik A.Ş. Sheraton ile anlaştı. 1968'de temeli atılan inşaat 1975’te sonlandı. Belediye Gazinosu (1940-1965). Taksim Meydanı 1970’ler
