Shepperton Weir

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: One of two weirs of Shepperton Lock, both south, this lower one dropping directly into the Thames main channel having received both mouths of the Wey and the upper flow. There are moorings immediately above the weir, accessed by water by passing through Shepperton Lock to the north. Only the outer paddles are usually open, as here. The weir keeper and Environment Agency office on the island open it more in spate or flood upstream. The weir structure is covered and its walkway provides access to residential Hamhaugh Island. Canoe slalom poles provide training for Elmbridge Canoe Club members to hone their paddling skills as well as sea scouts and sea cadets to do the same.
