Description

'Shaka' is the Japanese translation of 'Tathagata', the title of the Buddha. Here the raised hand is shown in the mudra (hand gesture) of abhaya (fearlessness), to provide reassurance, whilst the other hand (the Buddha’s left) is open in welcome. Around the head is a halo.
