Opis vrste

D.t. 11–12 cm. Areal obuhvata centralnu, zapadnu i južnu Evropu, Malu Aziju i severnu Afriku. Selica je, osim u mediteranskim delovima Evrope. Gnezdi se na obodima šuma različitog tipa, u mozaičnim predelima, voćnjacima, parkovima i drugim zelenim površinama u naseljima. Dobro sakrivena gnezda gradi na drveću. Hrani se semenjem biljaka i insektima. Populacija u Evropi je stabilna, dok u Srbiji brojnost žutarice raste i trenutno se procenjuje na 50.000–70.000 parova (Puzović et al 2009).
