English: Judge Septimus J. HannaHanna witnessed the beneficial effects of Christian Science on his wife's health and began to investigate its teachings for himself. After four years, he left his legal career in Leadville, Colorado, to devote himself to the advancement of Christian Science. In 1892 Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and discoverer of Christian Science and author of its Textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, called Judge Hanna to Boston to serve as Editor of The Christian Science Journal. A year later, she chose him to read her address to the Parliament of Religions at the Chicago World's Fair. He became Pastor of The Mother Church in 1894, and at the dedication of the Original Edifice on January 6, 1895, Judge Hanna became First Reader, serving in that capacity for seven years. He and his wife, Camilla, both attended Mrs. Eddy's 1898 class and received the degree of C.S.D. (Christian Science Doctor). Judge Hanna also served on the Bible Lesson Committee and the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. He taught the Normal class under the auspices of the Christian Science Board of Education in 1907. |
