Deutsch: Durch das periodische Kippen der Drehachse des Planeten um bis zu 60 Grad kommt es zu starken Klimaschwankungen auf dem Mars. Dann wird auch in gemäßigten Breiten, die auf der Erde zum Beispiel geographischen Gebieten wie Europa entsprechen würden, Eis über längere Zeiträume abgelagert. Zusammen mit vom Wind eingetragenem Staub bildet das Eis Schichten, die sich wie ein Mantel über bestehende Oberflächenformen legen. Diese „Mantelablagerungen“ sind in dieser kontrastverstärkten Draufsicht im linken und rechten Bilddrittel zu sehen (Norden ist rechts im Bild.) Links und rechts der beiden zehn bzw. zwölf Kilometer großen Einschlagskrater in der Bildmitte überdeckt Kraterauswurf in zwei Schichten die Umgebung. Die Mantelablagerungen sind an den Kraterrändern und besonders gut im Inneren der Einschlagskrater zu erkennen. Hier wird es als ‚konzentrische Kraterfüllung‘ bezeichnet und ist auch in den kleineren Kratern der Umgebung zu finden.
