The original finding aid described this photograph as: Event: Secretary Mel Martinez in Miami, Florida Subject Description: Secretary Mel Martinez visiting Miami, Florida, for participation in a bilingual town hall meeting--organized by HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the National Council of La Raza--on Bush Administration initiatives in the FY 2003 budget aimed at helping minority families overcome common barriers encountered in seeking to purchase their first home. The Secretary, joined on stage by Cristina Saralegui, host of a show on the Univision television network, discussed initiaitves including the American Dream Downpayment Fund; a new tax credit for builders of single-family homes; and a housing counseling program designed to help families through the home-buying process and educate them against unscrupulous lenders.
