Summary

[edit]
Description

Terracotta ornamentation over east door of former Queen Anne High School (built 1909 with additions in 1929 and 1955), 215 Galer St., Queen Anne Hill, Seattle, Washington. The building, now condominium apartments, is on the National Register of Historic Places, ID #85002916). (The initial conversion to apartments was in 1987, with major improvements and "going condo" in 2006.)

The upper part of this is clearly a lion with its mouth held open by a ring. There is another smiling animal—as best I can work out, a hippopotamus, but that might be wrong—with its head poking out from the ring. The lion's lower jaw is not realistic, and seems to include some representations of plants, including possibly a pineapple.
