Title |
Seal Matrix: Abbot |
||
Description |
English: A flat circular copper-alloy seal matrix with plain flat back. Outer has cut away, presumably removing suspension loop in the process. Device of a male in clerical robes and wearing a mitre, seated on a "throne", with what appears to be a small triangular bracket beneath it. He is holding a crozier in his right hand; this has a spur or branch-stub pointing left just below his hand, and is topped by a double knot. His left hand is unclear, but appears to be holding a book. There are traces of a crozier on the right side which have been largely obliterated, the head by a large, six-pointed star, and the point at which the crozier rose above the height of the chair arm is obscured by a small cinquefoil pierced. There are three further cinquefoils pierced, starting to the right of this one and echoing the curve of the circle; on the left, on the opposite side, the space between the crozier and the edge has two large six-pointed stars. All within two neat concentric circles. |
