A few years ago I lived in a small village in the Grampian Region of Scotland called Dallas. Yes, it IS the ORIGINAL Dallas. It's an upland area in which the main economic activity is farming. The village, despite having a population of only about 200, does have a substantial stone-built village hall which is in regular, almost daily, use. In order to pay for the upkeep of the hall the village has a Gala Day every summer. Displays and attractions provide entertainment for the locals and the thousands of visitors who come, each paying a very small entry fee. Recently the numbers attending have reduced but it's still a big attraction. This shot, taken from a helicopter in 1994, is unfortunately not of good quality -for which I apologise- but shows the scene before the crowds came. |
