There is a slidefitted into the table that canbe moved to and from theunder cutter-head, so as toallow cutters to projectthrough the face of the tableand act as a chip breaker. The patent hood over topcutter-head is adjustable toand from the cutters to al-low long knives to be usedon head, and the hoodis weighted to act as a com-bined pressure shoe and chipbreaker. The frame whichholds the hood is hinged,and has a swivel or circu-lar motion, and can bethrown entirely out of theway to give the operator freeaccess to cutter-head. Thereare two adjustable yieldingpressure shoes for holdingthe stuff firmly to bed whilebeing worked. These machines are made by Messrs. Rowley & Her mance, Williamsport, Pa., who also manufacture mor- lisers, tenoners, and different sizes of moulders; also sash, door, and blind machinery.

The great iron bridge of the Atlantic and Pacific Rail-road over the Canon Diablo, in Arizona, has recently beencompleted. It is 500 feet long, the canon being some 250feet deep. The height of the bridge is 340 feet, or 14 feethigher than Bunker Hill Monument: The weight of thebridge amounts to something like 800,000 pounds, and thecost of construction was ;300,000. rOTJR-SIDED MOULDING MACHINE MADE BY ROWLEY & HERMANCE. In this machine there is an entirely new device for gearing the under feed roll, making it a very strong feedingmachine. The under roll is so geared that it feedsequally strong when the bed is lowered to fourteen inches,as when working thin stuff. This is an important featurein sticking door stiles and rails or other wide stock, and ispeculiar to this machine. There are two upper feed rolls,one weighted, the other held firmly by springs.
