Deutsch: Schema des französischen Synchrotron Soleil. Der abgebildete große Ring ist das Synchrotron, ein Teilchenbeschleuniger, der Elektronen auf Geschwindigkeiten nahe der Lichtgeschwindigkeit bringt. Das innere Oval ist eine Strecke zur Vorbeschleunigung, in der das Elektron bereits über 99% der Lichtgeschwindigkeit erreicht. In den acht „Armen“ befinden sich wissenschaftliche Geräte, die die Bremsstrahlung der in den Kurven abgelenkten Elektronen auffangen und analysieren.
English: General diagram of Synchrotron Soleil. The outer circular ring is the synchrotron, i.e. a particle accelerator that brings electrons (light blue beam) to very high speeds. The electrons are accelerated by electric fields in the straight sections between green squares. The red rectangles are magnets that bend the beam. When the beam is bent the electrons emit synchrotron radiation (shown in yellow), especially X-rays; these are sent into the various beamlines (the straight lines branching out of the synchrotron). Each beamline contains scientific instruments, experiments etc. and receives an intense beam of radiation.
Français : Synchrotron Soleil: schéma de principe. Des électrons sont successivement accélérés dans le Linac (accélérateur linéaire) puis dans le booster (accélérateur circulaire), avant d'être injectés dans le grand anneau appelé anneau de stockage, où ils tournent pendant des heures en émettant le rayonnement synchrotron. La vitesse des électrons est quasiment celle de la lumière et leur énergie, fixée par les concepteurs de la machine, dépend d'un synchrotron à l'autre. Elle est de 2,75 milliards d'eV dans le cas du synchrotron SOLEIL (plateau de Saclay, France). Le rayonnement synchrotron est une lumière extrêmement intense, couvrant une gamme de longueurs d'onde allant des infrarouges jusqu'aux rayons X. Ce rayonnement, émis par les électrons à chacun de leurs virages, est guidé vers les lignes de lumière installées tout autour de l'anneau de stockage. Chaque ligne de lumière est un laboratoire d'une vingtaine de mètres de long, instrumenté pour analyser des échantillons - en utilisant des techniques spécifiques aux informations recherchées - et traiter les données recueillies. |
