English: Post-medieval musket balls; Scatter of 14 lead musket balls, probably late 17th century.

(numbered left to right, top to bottom as per photograph)

1. Large ball with many flat, facetted planes across its surface. Thin white patina over the lead. Diameter 19.6mm, weight 36.26g.

2. Large ball with rounded ends and flattened band around the middle. Pinkish-white patina over the lead. Length 17.5mm (rounded end to rounded end), diameter 15.8mm (across the flattened middle band), weight 26.68g.

3. Medium-sized ball with rounded end, then flattened band around the middle, then a further rounded end which is recessed from the outer mid-band. Thick white patina over the lead. Length 13.9mm (rounded end to rounded end), diameter 13.4mm (across the flattened middle band), weight 14.93g.

4. Medium-sized spherical ball. Whitish patina over the lead. Diameter 14.6mm, weight 16.82g.

5. Small spherical ball. Thin white patina over the lead. Diameter 11.9mm, weight 9.03g.

6. Small spherical ball with 2 recent score marks across one side. Thin brownish patina over much of the lead surface. Diameter 12.0mm, weight 8.89g.

7. Small spherical ball with one flattened plane and a small gauged indent. Thin brownish patina over the lead. Diameter 11.2mm, weight 7.11g.

8. Small spherical ball with flattened planes on two sides. Thick white patina over the lead. Diameter 11.2mm, weight 6.78g.

9. Small spherical ball with a small, circular hole pierced into one side of it. Thick white patina over the lead. Diameter 9.8mm, weight 5.42g.

10. Small spherical ball with indication of small flattened plane on one side. Thick reddish-white patina over the lead. Diameter 9.6mm, weight 5.24g.

11. Very small ball with many facetted, flattened planes across it. Thin whitish patina over some areas of the lead surface. Diameter 8.9mm, weight 3.43g.

12. Very small ball with many facetted, flattened planes across it. Thin whitish patina over some areas of the lead surface. Diameter 9.0mm, weight 3.41g.
