Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Scarth Nick. The road through Scarth Nick is a continuation of the old drovers' road across Black Hambleton and is cartainly pre-Roman. It was heading north to cross the Tees at Yarm. At that time the lowlands comprised marshy forests. The name itself derives from old Norse 'skarthi' meaning a notch or cleft. View looking down from Whorlton Moor.
