Italiano: La Scarpata. (Ulassai)

1993 Cemento armato, acciaio inossidabile, tempera e pietre, mt.80x30 L'intervento nasce dalla proposta di risanamento di una vecchia discarica a pochi km dal paese. Lai decide di costruire una grande geografia ambientale che ricorda, nella forma, una clessidra: nella parte alta specchi d'acciaio catturano i raggi del sole, al centro il cemento e il colore descrivono un cielo stellato, in basso le pietre disegnano la sagoma di un dinosauro. In certe ore della giornata il sole colpisce l'acciaio creando suggestivi riflessi di luce visibili dal paese che segnano, come una meridiana, il passare del tempo.

Maria Lai's intervention was due to the reclamation proposition of an old dumping ground a few kilometres away from the town. Lai decided to construct a wide environmental geography that looks like a sandglass: on the top end there are steel mirrors catching the sunlight, in the middle the concrete and the colour depict a starry sky and, down below, the stones draw the outline of a dinosaur. At certain moments of the day the sunbeams strike the steel and create impressive reflections of light, which mark the time going by like a sundial.
This is a photo of a monument which is part of cultural heritage of Italy. This monument participates in the contest Wiki Loves Monuments Italia 2016. See authorisations.
