Summary

[edit]
Description This charming stone cottage is located along Savannah Drive in my hometown of Sylva, North Carolina. Constructed circa 1940, the house is a charming example of the stone cottages that were popular in the area during the period, and features both Craftsman and Colonial Revival elements and details that differentiate it from the majority of the rest of similar houses, which were largely built in a stripped-down Tudor Revival style that was known as the English Cottage style. This house sits perched on a hillside overlooking Mark Watson Park, formerly the campus of Sylva High School and Sylva Elementary School, which served the town from the 1920s through the 1960s and 1970s. Today, it’s received some renovations, including replacement windows and other renovations that have removed some of the building’s original character, but it has not been so heavily modified that it doesn’t retain some historic character.
