Description
English: The famous Sankata Devi temple is located in Tebhal Tol of Kathmandu. These Bhairavi-shaped deities were established in the eleventh century during the reign of King Narendra Dev by Bandhu Dutta Acharya from Kamru Kamaksha to Nepal. According to the records of 1742 BS, this temple is considered to be ancient. This goddess has 6 hands. Different types of weapons are held in different hands. It is said that even the priests do not look below the navel of this idol. Devotees worship Bhairav Shanishchar, Bhairavi, Bhagwati, Durga in various forms.

According to legend, during the reign of King Narendra Dev, the Buddhist scholar Vandhuratna Bajracharya, according to the king's orders, worshiped the elf in a urn with the power of his mantra. He even managed to get the goddess into his urn. In remembrance of that, every 12 years, the priests go to Katuwal Daham and worship Sankata and Yogini in two urns. And the urn is brought to the temple every 12 years with festivities by bringing Sankata and Barun i.e. Bajrayogini.

According to the Swasthani Bratakatha in the Skanda Purana, Sankata Shaktipith originated as Bhairavi Devi with her head falling off during the fall of Sati Devi's limbs.
