Sanderlings, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina USA

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: These small wading birds are always fun to watch as they scurry back and forth right at the leading edge of the surf, probing in the wet sand for food. Seen while strolling near sundown on Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, 11 Oct 2008. According to www.allaboutbirds.org/, these individuals are non-breeding adults. Also, the sanderling is one of the world’s most widespread shorebirds. Though they nest only in the High Arctic, in fall and winter you can find them on nearly all temperate and tropical sandy beaches throughout the world.
