Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Sand dune in Carse Wood When sea level was dropping after the end of the last ice age (as isostatic re-adjustment caused Scotland to rise slowly in relation to sea level) the Carse was a beach area. In this area there are many "fossilised" sand dunes which have been left far from the present high water mark. The area has been used for plantations of Scots Pine due to the relative infertility of the soil.
