Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Located on a bank of Tha Sala canal, in Tha Kha subdistrict, Amphawa district, Tha Kha Floating Market is a morning market where, in the past, locals and vendors from neighbouring subdistricts would gather to trade or exchange vegetables and fruits from 07:00 on every 2nd, 7th, and 12th day of waxing and waning moon of the lunar calendar. At present, the market is also open on Saturdays and Sundays. The market is home to a community that well preserves the local way of life. Visitors can experience an ambiance of local floating homes, people greeting one another and trading goods, mostly vegetables and fruits. This picturesque scene is increasingly rare today, especially transport of goods and assorted kind of fruits from “Orchards” from the basin of the Mae Klong River to the permanent floating market network which offers fresh food like coconut sugar, young coconut, tangerine, and processed food like dried freshwater fish, steamed mackerel, red limestone paste. Visitors can rent a rowing boat to cruise along the canal to see villages and orchards, as well as indigenous plants, Amphawa, Tangor, and Cayenne pepper, for example.
